Since Charmed debuted in 1998,
Dorian Gregory has played San Francisco copper Darryl Morris, a
former non-believer who befriended the show's trio of witches. "I protect them,"
he tells TV Guide Online, "so the public doesn't find out their secret and
keep them from doing good."
Natch, he occasionally gets caught in the crossfire between the sexy Wiccans and their infernal foes. "Have I ever gotten zapped?" he laughs. "There was one episode where a demon was trying to take my soul. So that's pretty magical and frightening." His shades-of-gray response to that script was very Hollywood. "You can't take my soul," he recalls telling Charmed producers. "Now, you can lease it or rent it — but ya can't take it!" He's faced worse torments since joining The Other Half's panel of daytime talkers: Dick Clark, Mario Lopez and Danny Bonaduce. Their previous co-host — plastic surgeon Dr. Jan Adams — quit to host The Discovery Channel's Skin Deep and write books. Hence, newbie Gregory is going through some hazing. "They waxed my chest," the 31-year-old says, "and they had me wearing a skirt, stockings and high heels. It's just to walk in a woman's shoes — for us to really understand how much work goes into being a woman. It's amazing to see what they have to deal with!" Gregory didn't mind replacing Dr. Jan as the show's resident African-American male; he's aware of Half's obvious effort to appeal to varied viewer demographics. It doesn't hurt that he's a young looker, either! "I don't know if the primary objective was sexiness," he blushes. "The main drive for the show is to bring in four totally different perspectives. It's a wonderful thing when they give diverse examples of what life's all about." |
