If
getting a bod like Alyssa Milano's were as simple as casting a spell, we'd all
be dabbling in the dark arts. Unlike
her Charmed alter ego, Phoebe
Halliwell, the actress doesn't rely on magic to maintain her healthy physique.
Instead, she puts the pedal to the metal with a regimen of intense stationary
bike workouts known as The Ride. "I
think one of the reasons Alyssa likes this kind of workout so much is because
it's both spiritual, motivational and physical," says Milano's fitness
instructor, Debbie Rocker. Rocker invented and leads most of the 40-minute
sessions Alyssa participates in at Rocker's L.A.-based studio, also called The
Ride. Accompanied by upbeat music, Alyssa's cycling sessions focus on meditation,
relaxation and concentration skills, thereby shaping the mind as well as the
body. But
wait, that's not all. On top of those sweaty sessions, Alyssa crams in some
pretty-spot weight training. We're talking 30 minutes, two to three times a week.
"We choose just a few body parts per session. One day we might just
concentrate on abs or biceps; another day it's all about the lower body,"
Rocker explains. If
you are gym-phobic or just don't have the time, but still want a bewitching bod
plus a take-anything heart, Rocker believes biking is the hot tip. "Whether
you're cruising through the neighborhood on your Schwinn or cycling up a sweat
at the gym, it really is one of the fastest ways to lean out your body,"
says Rocker. It helps you burn fat and calories rapidly because it's so high
intensity; it tones and strengthens muscles, and it's wicked fun. |
