PART 1
The movie begins at night. Moving quickly through the corridors of an unknown sub-level of
the Centre, four men are working their way toward two sweepers standing guard in front of a vault. Just before they round the corner that reveals the vault door, the sweepers hear them, but even though they are mic-ed up, before either of them can utter a word of alarm, they are shot by the mysterious intruders.
Still moving quickly, two of the men place explosives in strategic places on the vault door and blow it open. The room looks like a child's game of pick-up-sticks, played with the red spears of laser beams. Beyond the cat's-cradle of streaming lights there is a pedestal, upon which sits a single box.
One of the men rolls deftly onto the ground and begins moving underneath the red shafts of light. As soon as he's in position, he aims a two pronged laser device of his own at the source of a beam. When contact is made, the vault's laser beam shuts down. Alternately sliding and creeping beneath the remaining beams, the man disables each of them, one at a time - until the room is devoid of the shining red lights.
Finally, he stands and nods at his companions, who have been waiting near the vault door. They begin walking toward the pedestal and the box that sits atop it, the one who is clearly in charge moving naturally to the forefront.
He slowly swings the top of the box open on his hinges. Delicate gold chains prevent the lid from opening too far. As he does this, the man says
"Behold the scrolls"
Inside the velvet lined box, there are only two indentations to behold - niches that might have once held scrolls, but now are empty. Stunned momentarily into silence, the man only stares.
"They're not here"
In a room in The Centre that either is the infirmary or has been turned into one by enclosing an area with white curtains, Mr. Parker sits in a chair, staring straight ahead. He's wearing a plaid bathrobe and there is a Band-Aid on the left side of his forehead.
"Talk me daddy....This is not the way it's supposed to be"
There is a white-coated doctor in the area, who has been examining Mr. Parker - shining a pen light into his
eyes.
"Catatonia is a schizophrenic disorder marked by stupor and mutism. No doubt brought on by the trauma of the gunshot head wound be suffered"
"Can't you wake him up"
"Oh, he's awake....he's just trapped in there"
"I'd like to be alone with my father"
He leaves
"If in fact, you are my real father. Daddy........
are you in there daddy?
She unrolls the picture of her mother and Jarod's mother that was faxed to both her and Jarod.
"Look at this...This was sent to me anonymously. Do you have any idea why my mother and Jarod's mother are together? I didn't even know they knew each other"
Still, Mr. Parker does not move. Gently, Miss Parker lays her head on her
father's chest.
"This is what you had so much to tell me about"
The moment is shattered by Lyle, who parts the curtains.
"Hey Sis"
Immediately, Miss Parker's attitude changes. She moves quickly away from her father, and faces her brother instead. The curtains are still parted behind Lyle, his hands still on them. The men who murdered the sweepers and blew the vault while looking for the scrolls are revealed, standing just on the other side of it.
"You gotta get out of here"
"Why?"
Jerking his head to indicate the men outside of the curtain Lyle says
"They say so"
"What are Adama and his "Triumvirate goons" doing here?"
"Now that Dad is awake and..." he hesitates a moment, then continues
"...conscious, they're taking over his protection and
they want him isolated"
"Why? Are they afraid of what he might say, or who he
might drool on?"
Miss Parker shares a "smile" with Adama
Lyle closes the curtains behind him, approaches Miss Parker.
"I don't know, but I have a feeling it has something to do the vault on SL 15 they blew to pieces last night"
Miss Parker shows mild interest in this bit of news.
"Looking for what?"
"Hell if I know"
"I wonder if Raines has something to do with this"
"Doubt it... he still hasn't surfaced from his latest
disappearing act. Truth is, don't know, don't care. When this crazy Zulus get
this pissed off, I just follow their orders"
Lyle walks over to Mr. Parker, waves his hand up and down in front of his face, snaps his fingers. Mr. Parker remains still as a statue.
"And now with dad's brains are scrambled as
yesterday's eggs they're gonna need to put someone new in charge around here..."
Still bending over Mr. Parker, Lyle turns his head toward Miss Parker, winks at her, then
says
"...Consider me an applicant."
Lyle reacts to someone coming up behind Miss Parker and she turns to find herself face to face with the imposing figure of Adama.
" If it isn't another Parker...surprise to see you
here"
"Really? Consider my family has been running this
place...."
"...The Triumvirate runs in the Centre. You leave us now"
Momentarily undecided, Miss Parker turns to look at her father, then turns back to face Adama again.
"You harm one hair on my father's head, Adama, and so help me"
"I never liked you either"
From another side of the room, Broots sticks his head through the curtains and sofly says
"Miss Parker"
She dismisses him with a
"Not now, Broots."
Broots is uncomfortable, clears his throat and says
"No, no...it has to be now"
As he motions with his eyes for her to walk over to him. Miss Parker gives Adama another cold stare, then walks to where Broots' face is framed by the curtains. Lowering his voice to the barest whisper, Broots says
"I found Jarod"
Then quickly withdraws his head from the room and is gone. Miss Parker takes one last look at her father, then at Adama, before turning and leaving the room through the break in the curtains from which Broots summoned
her.
PART 2
At the Dennison Museum in Boston, Massachusetts, Professor
Jarod Dodson grabs a clown Pez dispenser from atop his desk and uses it to
insert a Pez into his mouth. He's on the phone with someone.
"it's an ancient symbol of some sort...yes...eight
skeletal figures on the circumference of the symbol"
His excitement at hearing that the person on the other end of the line
"Have you seen it? Do you have an address?...I've
been searching for this for weeks, I'd be happy to hold"
Too excited to stay seated, Jarod grabs the telephone and begins pacing his
office and as he does, he hears the sound of a car pulling up, too fast, outside
of his window. It's a sound he's heard countless times before and it causes him
to look to see what's going on. A couple of stories below, Jarod sees Miss
Parker emerging from the car that just arrived.
"Oh, no,"
he says softly then begins urging the person who has placed him on hold to
"Oh no, come on, come on"
Although he knows that it's not possible for that person to hear him through the
silence imposed by the "hold" button of the phone.
Miss Parker and two sweepers have entered on the ground floor of the museum. Her
hair flying from the hastiness of her movements, she inquires at the first desk
"Jarod
Dodson"
"Second floor"
In his office, Jarod responds to the voice on the phone, holding a notebook in
front of him as he cradles the receiver between cheek and neck.
"Yes, I've a pen...it's on the wall outside the Alley
Sports Bar"
Jarod writes the location of the item on a yellow pad in his notebook.
Miss Parker and her team are upstairs now, walking as fast as they can without
breaking into a run, down one of the corridors that lead to Jarod's office.
"Thank you very much"
Jarod quickly begins grabbing the paperwork that is strewn all over his desk.
Miss Parker and her team round the final corner and burst into Jarod's office,
guns drawn.
But the office is empty. Jarod has managed to elude her again.
"Find him" snaps Miss Parker at the
sweepers and they immediately turn and leave the office.
On Jarod's desk, the Pez dispenser remains, but there is now a post-it note
attached to it that says "Miss P, sorry I missed you. J"
The phone in Jarod's office rings and Miss Parker picks it up, barking her
customary
"What?" into the receiver. It is Jarod.
"You've been chasing me for five years. Why don't you
just leave me alone?"
"You know that's not the way it is. My job is to
catch and return you to the Centre. You run, I chase, just like always. Beside I
need answers"
"About?"
"About who my real father is, about who I
really am"
"Welcome to the club"
It is snowing outside and Jarod is walking down an alley, talking to Miss Parker
on a cell phone.
"A photograph we were both e-mailed of our mothers,
what does it mean?"
"You work to the Centre, I thought you people
everything"
"I know they still want you back"
"And why? Because I'm the pretender? Because I can be
anyone I wanna be? I'm not buying now anymore, It's something else"
"You tell me what you know about the photograph"
"I'm not sure what it means but something tells me it
holds the key to this whole puzzle. And first one who find the
answers..wins"
With that he breaks the connection. Moments later, Miss Parker hears the horn of
her car honking. Annoyed, she goes to the window and looks down. Jarod is just
getting into Miss Parker's car, and he waves at her before he leaves in it.
"Jarod" she says sofly.
Angry, Miss Parker walks back to Jarod's desk and smashes
the Pez dispenser with the telephone.
PART 3
At the Centre, in Miss Parker's office, Broots says
"The museum people said that Dr Jarod was the
funniest archeo-symbologist that ever worked for them"
"Yes, he's a regular laugh riot. What exactly is an
archeo-symbologist?"
"You know, it's the study of the origin of
unexplainable symbols past down throught the ages. It's a quite exciting field"
"I can just imagine the crop circle deciphering
parties at your house"
"Is there any other symbol in particular that
intrigued Jarod?" says
Sidney
Broots pulls out a photo from a box. They look at it
"No, the people of the museum said this was the only
thing he looked at. The whole box is full of different photo enhancements
of it. Is creepy too. Eight skeletal in circle guarding some kind of giant
cheat in the middle. They said Jarod was obsessed with finding out where it came
from"
Miss Parker looks throught the box of photo enlargement. Something catches her
eye: ivy on the edge of the frame. Something clicks. She looks at her mom's
photo with a magnifying glass and sees the same symbol on the wall above her
mother in the mom's photo.
"Whatever the symbol means, Jarod's obsession tells
me it's personal"
She doesnt' reveal her findings, but doesn't answer Sidney's remark
"And the first one to the answers wins"
The proprietor of the Alley Sports bar is taking boxes out of the basement, and
as Jarod looks at the symbol with the skeletal heads on the wall, partially
hidden behind the ivy
"Most people don't even notice that silly looking
thing"
"That's why I'm here. I've been doing some research
on symbology that lead me to this building"
"Well, you're just in time for our going out of
business sale, I swear this place has a "mojo" on it"
Jarod doesn't understand the word
"Mojo?"
"It's one of those locations that no matter. What business you run out of it the place goes belly up. A meet this is a Sports bar right? Near a college campus and I can't give beer away"
"I'm looking for someone who may have been here years ago
... someone who might have been interested in this symbol on the wall".
"Oh yeah, the crazy eight's"
"Crazy eight?"
"that's what I call it. because it has eight freaky dead guys in a circle
around that other thing...crazy eight's. Say it all started with the "Vespusians"
"Vespusians?"
A secret society founded about a hundred years ago, right
in this same building"
"Secret society?"
"You know, like guys go around a minibyke, fezzes
on. The rumor is that some immigrant guy set up shops here, amassed a fortune by holding evil worship type meetings in the basement"
Jarod remarks
"It's sounds rather farfetched don't you think?"
"Yeah, that's I though it was too, until they started doing some renovations in the basement and came of the "stuff"
He shows Jarod the area of the basement in which the discoveries were made by a plumber who was attempting to add a second sewer line for the bar upstairs
"It's right here. We want to add a second sewer line down here and the plumber has cover this. He wasn't finish the job..I can't says a blame"
In one of the walls, there is a niche that contains several objects and which has the same symbol above it as is located on the outside wall. Among the objects in the niche is a map, which immediately draws Jarod's attention
"Damn it, it's missing"
"What's missing?"
"There was a blue box with a heart carved , had a porcelain doll inside. The lady must a taken it"
The mention of a woman getting there before Jarod causes him to take his attention from the map
"Lady?"
"Yeah, lady came in a couple of days ago"
"Let me guess she's brunette, tall, great legs"
"No, such luck. No, older lady asking questions about the symbol of the Vespusian. A moment
this.....Hold it, that's her. You must know her. That's her in the picture, right there"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, but she older, sure but I'm positive she was there where you are
not three days ago. She means something?"
"Yes, she's my mother. Did she say where she was going?"
"Yeah, she was going back to a where the guy who built this place came from. Right there. An island of Scotland, it's called Carthis probably looking stuff must it came from"
Stunned by the news, Jarod takes a closer look at the other items in the niche.
PART 4
Back at The Centre, Broots and Sydney discover Miss Parker drawing a sample of
blood from her arm. Alarmed, Broots rushes over
"What are you doing, Miss Parker?"
"Searching for answers. I have to know if daddy is my
real father"
Miss Parker hands the syringe to Sydney
"It's my genetic material, you get a sample of my
father'sin my comparative"
"Your father is being guarded by the psyco-zulu and I
don't think they are to kindly, to us plunging a
needle in your old man's arm"
"There's another way, Broots. The Centre’s bodily
fluid storage facility"
"Bodily fluid storage facility what the hell is as
for?"
"A storage for anyone important
many the transfusion"
"I hope they didn't take mine"
"Get a sample of my father"
"Parker, have you considered the psychological
implications?"
Miss Parker isn't listening to anyone, and, exasperated says
"Sidney, please just do it"
Sydney leaves and Miss Parker turns to her computer, which is running a global
search for the symbol that she found in the pictures in Jarod's last lair. The
search is going slowly and is showing no positive results.
"Miss Parker, I don't know what you're looking for
but, I'll be happy to help you"
"Thank you, Broots, but this is one mystery that I
have to solve myself"
As she walks back from the closed door, Miss Parker finishes the sentence to an
empty office by saying
" ... and there's only one person qualified to help"
As Angelo examines the picture of Miss Parker's mother and Jarod's mother
together
"Angelo, I need you to use your gift as an empath and
tell me what my mother and jarod's mother were doing together"
"Miss Parker's mother sad, Jarod's mother frightened"
"What about what's on the wall in the ivy?"
Angelo looks closely at the symbol and says
"Vespusians...Vespusians Vespusians, Vespusians
Vespusians"
Angelo becoming more agitated each time he repeats it.
"Angelo, Angelo please...calm down, calm down.
It's ok calm. Angelo, I need you help"
Angelo begins overturning the tables in the room and throwing chairs aside. He
grabs a piece of paper and a pencil, and, holding the paper up against the wall,
frantically begins drawing a picture on it.
"Angelo, what are Vespusians?"
"Evil, evil people, evil people, evil people evil
people"
Angelo never stopping his scribbling continuing to draw the picture. Miss Parker
presses for more information
"Where can I find evil people?"
Angelo keeps drawing, filling in more blank space with solid lines, changing his
chant now to
"Evil people, evil place, evil people evil place,
evil people, evil place, evil people, evil place."
"Angelo, where can I find the evil people?"
Finally satisfied with his drawing, he hands it to Miss Parker
"An the island, the island of the haunted"
PART 5
The sea is slate gray and choppy, varying only slightly in color from the troubled sky. Jarod stands close to the man who is piloting the long boat that is nearly skimming the water, it's moving so quickly toward an island on the horizon. The skipper asks Jarod
"Are you sure you want to go there? They say that the souls of the damned walk upon on the island"
Jarod replies
"I've been searching for years, for answers that might be on that island"
"What is it you say you did again?"
"I'm an archeologist"
"if the answers you diggin for are on that island, you're better off not knowing them, since something that offended God himself happened on that land, only evil leaves that place. I ferry people back and forth from it, period. Hell, if the boat capsized right now, even with a great storm coming, I'd rather take his chances in the sea, then set one foot on that island"
Walking down the cobblestone streets on the island, Jarod appears to have been transported back in time. People are riding in buggies that are drawn by horses, farmers are carrying their produce to market in oversized baskets and monks wearing cowls are walking, heads lowered, keeping to themselves.
On the steps outside of a church, a man is pleading with three of the "Brothers"
"Please, Brother Renaldus, we're scared. They don't called evil storm for nothing, I speak for
everybody when I said it, we'd all
feel safer, if we left"
"That's a hugh storm Brother Renaldus"
"I great, but I strongly believe the course it take 50 kilometre of the east"
"It' matter a precaution, we could arrange for a couple of shallow boats to evacuating came morning if the storm changes
course"
and the brother on the right expresses his concern
"I feels it will change course, it's time for a cleansing storm to come. We're been responsed of the ability
for the souls of the island"
"Yes, please Brother, please"
"Aye, very well, though I think the two of you are being overly fretful as
usual, I'll arrange to have the shallow boats prepare for dawn"
"Thank you Brother"
As the islanders go back to their business, Jarod approaches Brother Renaldus and tells him
"Excuse me, whom does one speak about accomodations"
"Aye, that would bewith me, I'm brother
Renaldus, it's brother Menencious and it's brother Clothes. I can't says informed to aspect stranger"
"My name is Jarod, I'm looking for a refuge. I've been told that no travel seeking for sanctuary on those shores has been turned away"
"Of course, brothers please"
"Thank you"
Holding a lantern in front of them, the brother takes Jarod down narrow stairs, showing him to his room.
"Watch you step, this monastery over 700 years old, all built by the brothers before us. Most of they were better brandy makers than masons"
Jarod remarks
"So the room that a monastery was built of the order of Knights Templar, it's true?
"True or not questions like that, to best directed to brother Renaldus, a doubt anyone could thinks you associate secret society of a warrior monks, a less, of course, the weapons choice were skin and bone. The modern standards amenities a primitive, with no electric, no phones and very little running water"
"Oh, it will be just fine, that's a matter fact is this remember the place I grew up"
"Think at the island is a good place to get away from the modern world"
"And what about other visitors?"
"Visitors?"
"Let's says someone was looking for me"
The brother says
"If someone were looking for you or, you are looking for them, your're been in the wrong place, for centuries the Vespusian
Brothers have been this place a refuge. Privacy of our guests is always been the rule"
"Ah....thank you"
As Jarod begins to settle in to the nearly empty room, he looks into the mirror on one of the small tables and catches a bit of movement just outside his door. Quickly he turns and looks up and down the hallway that leads to his room, but sees no one there.
Jarod is wakened from his sleep by a nightmare and when he gets up to the cobblestone streets, he finds everyone hurriedly moving toward the shallow boats, evacuating the island.
"What going on?" ask Jarod
"Evacuation"
Church bells are ringing and two of the brothers from the day before tells Jarod
"The storm changed course in the night has doubled in size"
"It's a devil storm sure enough comes only time in a century and it's heading right for this island"
"the bells announce the evacuating and half has already gone"
"They already gone?"
"The next bells ring will announce the last boat leaving, be on it"
Jarod protests, saying
"But wait, I can't leave"
"Brother Rinaldus is orders. Listen for the bells, save your life"
He tries to ask some of the people who are leaving if they have seen his mother
"Excuse me, have you ever seen this woman on the island?
"No"
"Excuse me, have you ever seen her?"
"No"
"Excuse me sir...."
But no one will say that they have, they are only interested in getting off the island before the storm hits.
Jarod begins to despair, then suddenly he sees his mother! She is far down the street and is holding her red cape close around her, to protect her from the wind, while clutching a neon yellow and black tote bag.
Jarod screams,
"Mom! Mom!"
And waves his hands in the air, trying to get her attention. But the noise from the people leaving, the wind, and the added clatter of a helicopter circling above makes it impossible for her to hear him. She looks up at the sky, sees the helicopter and hurries away, frightened.
In the middle of town, a shiny black helicopter, with "The Centre" insignia on the side, lands, preventing Jarod from being able to immediately run in the direction in which his mother must have gone. Instead, he steps back into an alley way, so that he can watch the helicopter without himself being seen.
Miss Parker exits the chopper, her hair flying in the wind from the blades and the approaching storm. The helicopter immediately takes off again and Miss Parker approaches one of the brothers in the street, brother Menencious asking him
"Excuse me, excuse me, where everyone going?"
The brother tells her
"Off the island it's a back storm coming, it's a smart you'll leave, too"
She screams at him, over the wind, showing him the picture that Angelo drew, she asks him
"Wether updates I don't need. Answers I do. Does this ring a bell?"
He points down a street, toward a sign that directs people to a chapel and tells her
"Up the archway to the Chapel of Souls. It's up the path where it dead ends"
She has less luck when she shows him Jarod's picture.
"About this man, have you seen him?"
"Vespusians speak of no visitors here. God be with you"
Miss Parker looks up and sees Jarod, who hurries down the street away from her. She follows him.
Back at The
Centre, Sydney and Broots are watching the guards on sub-level 15, where the
bodily fluid storage area is found.
"Where does Adama get his triumvirate freaks anyway. They make the Centre sweepers anorexic powerpuff girls"
Sydney asks
Broots
"You're certain about their shifts schedule Broots?"
"According to Miss Parker, they swap out every six hours, speaking Miss Parker where has she been all day, anyway, she could at least have the decency to risk her butt with ours. It now or never, Sydney"
The guards leave
the room and Broots and Sydney hurry down the hallway. Broots punches the keys
on a lock pad and they quickly enter a room. Once inside, Sydney gives Broots a
leg up and he opens a cold storage chamber and looks inside.
"Oh Gosh!"
He takes a
bulbous vial down, telling Sydney
"It's placenta and cord blood samples from Brigitte and Mr. Parker's baby boy. Not to sound cynical, or anything, but has anybody seen that little kid lately?"
Looking in the
storage chamber again, Broots remarks
"Oh Jeez..."
"What is it?"
"I'm so
underpaid. Miss Parker owes me so big"
He grabs a vial
and removes it. Sydney asks him
"It's a Mr.
Parker's blood?"
Holding the vial
in front of him, using only two fingers, in order to touch as little of the
bottle as possible, Broots replies
"I wish it was Mr Parker's blood, the only sample for Mr. Parker in here is semen. Lets get out of here"
PART 6
On the island, Jarod sees a sign that says, "Ocee’s Herbal Remedies" and hurries into the store to avoid being seen again by Miss Parker. She is about to follow him inside when one of the brothers stops her and asks her
"Can I be help of, stranger?"
Giving Ocee’s one last glance, Miss Parker sees another sign, one that says "footpath to the Chapel" and tells the brother
"I'm just...leaving, like everyone else"
She takes another look at the picture that Angelo drew and heads toward the footpath.
Inside of Ocee’s door, Jarod breathes a sigh of relief as he watches Miss Parker walk away. From the back of the dark shop, a voice says
"It's sad to be alone"
Jarod looks and sees Ocee, working with some herbs, illuminated only by stray light, filtering through one of the windows.
"Terribly sorry to intruding"
"Not intruder, you're the seeker"
Jarod asks her
"Should not you prepare to evacuate for the storm? Aren't you afraid was
coming?"
"Ocee's journey is almost done, yours just beginning, yours full of
pain"
"Pain?"
She stands up, allowing the light to fall on her face, and it is clear from her opaque eyes that Ocee is blind.
"You've the broken heart, you have not found the loved one you
seek, the woman with the scarlet hair"
Miss Parker is following the signs that lead to the chapel when she sees a stone marker on the ground which is nearly obscured by leaves. She brushes the leaves off and sees that the marker has a picture chiseled into it that nearly matches the one she is carrying. From above her, on a knoll, Miss Parker hears a little girl, softly giggling. Looking up, Miss Parker says
"Hello"
The little girl stares back at Miss Parker and then says
"It's in the chapel"
"What's in the chapel?" replies Miss Parker
but the little girl turns and runs off.
"Wait!" calls Miss Parker, running after the child.
In Ocee’s shop, Jarod is imploring
"Tell me what you know about the woman with the scarlet hair. I saw her earlier, but I lost her"
Ocee tells him
"One you seek, seek you as well"
"Ocee, help me...please"
Ocee has been pouring herself a cup of tea, and she turns to face Jarod, holding the tea cup, in its saucer in one hand, while grasping his arm with the other. The cup that is sitting on the saucer begins to rattle, as Ocee’s hand trembles
"Ocee?...What's the matter?" ask Jarod
"Danger...she's in danger, now"
"Where?"
"Chapel of Souls" says Ocee as saucer, cup and tea all crash to the floor and break.
"The Chapel of Souls"
Jarod dashes from the room.
Miss Parker is standing in front of the Chapel of Souls, comparing the picture that Angelo drew with what she sees in front of her. There is no doubt that the two are the same. As she begins climbing the stone steps toward the chapel, Miss Parker hears a woman scream and then a gunshot. In the woods nearby, Jarod hears it, too. Both of them rush headlong toward the sounds.
Miss Parker enters the chapel, gun drawn, and begins checking each room as she passes through. She finds droplets of blood on the floor and follows them to a small room that might be a confessional. She flings open the door and is confronted with Jarod's mother, who is as startled to see Miss Parker as Miss Parker is to see her!
"My God, you look just like her!"
proclaims Margaret, as she pushes past a surprised Miss Parker and flees.
"Wait!"
Miss Parker begins to follow her, but as she runs through a draped doorway, she is hit on the head from behind by someone. Miss Parker falls, face first onto the floor.
Jarod has finally reached the chapel and rushes inside. He is approaching the spot where Miss Parker found the droplets of blood when Miss Parker emerges from the hallway where she was attacked. She's pointing her gun at Jarod with one hand, and rubbing the back of her head with the other.
"Next time you slams me like that, you'd better make it count"
"Miss Parker!"
"Stop the surprise crap Jarod. First one to the answers
wins, that is what you said, isn't it?"
Jarod has no patience for Miss Parker or her gun. He tells her
"My mother is on the island, and I have reason to believe she's in danger, now is not the time to play "Centre bounty
hunter"
Miss Parker tells Jarod
"That was your mother?"
"You saw her?"
"Yeah, just now she was panicked and her arm was
bleeding"
In the background, the sound of church bells begin to fill the air
"She was hurt" Jarod paused and continued
"That the last shuttle boat of this island....answers we both have been searching could be leaving right
now"
He takes steps toward the door, but Miss Parker does not lower her gun.
"Please..."
At the dock, the last boat is speeding away from Carthis. Jarod and Miss Parker come running through the woods
"Please , stop the boat!" screaming Jarod
They cannot hear him and do not stop.
"Mom! Mom!"
In spite of his cries, he has no choice but to stand on the island and watch his mother moving farther and farther away from him.
"Aghh! Nooo!"
Head down, she is coughing and holding her injured arm, with no idea that her son is on the shore, watching her go. Margaret begins to cry
"Forgive me Lord, forgive me"
Jarod sinks to his knees in miserable frustration, as Miss Parker catches up to him.
PART 7
"She was right here....my mother was right here in front of me" Jarod tells Miss Parker
"and once again it's the Centre that stops us from being together!"
As Jarod begins to stride away, Miss Parker turns and asks him
"Where you think you going?"
She doesn't raise her gun at him, but moves it slightly in her hand, to make him aware that it's there. Jarod reminds her
"Case not you had noticed that's the last boat off the island...we're alone now, so you can shoot me if you want to, but I find out what my mother was doing here, and why someone tried to kill her
to stop her from doing it"
Looking at her gun, Jarod tells Miss Parker that if she wants to shoot him, she can. But Miss Parker just drops the gun to her side, and Jarod walks away.
At The Centre, Mr. Lyle is walking down a dimly lit hallway when Mr. Raines
"Lyle"
Lyle walks over to Mr. Raines, who says
"You took my thumb"
Nonplused by seeing Raines, Lyle tells him
"You weren't using it at the time"
Raines tells Lyle
"A digit is the least you could give me for the favor I'm about to
ask"
Intrigued, Lyle squares himself off, crosses his arms across his chest, prepared to listen.
In another part of the hallway, Sydney and Broots walk through a door
"The premliminary result for being at least 24 hours, I tried to contact Mis Parker but..."
"I could to find her, I don't get her, a father's
genetic tested are so important and now that they're in
motion she ups and disappears. That's really weird"
Yeah, it's not like her to stay out
contact for so long"
"No, no, no, no, that...that"
Broots directs Sydney's gaze to Mr. Lyle and Mr. Raines, hugging each other, at the other end of the hallway.
Broots tells Sydney
"Mr Raines is back...something really strange is going on around there...come on"
On the island, Jarod and Miss Parker have made their way back to the Chapel of Souls and Miss Parker is explaining to Jarod where she saw his mother
"I found out your mother here, after I hear the gunshoot, she was
by the confessional"
"It's my mother's blood"
Jarod sees a muddy boot print, it has a crack in the heel.
"So muddy boot print, it has a crack in the heel, it must belongings
at man who shot her"
"And knocked me out"
"It leads this way"
Jarod and Miss Parker begin following the trail of the boot print. It leads them into the wood
sees the neon yellow tote
"Jarod look, your mother was carrying that"
"That's blood on it"
Inside the bag, Jarod and Miss Parker find the blue box with the heart carved in the top that the proprietor of the sports bar described to Jarod. They open the box, but the doll that should be nestled safely in the red velvet that is inside the box is not
there.
"Well, it's empty except for the impression of a small body"
"My mother find the doll in the building when she and your
mother were photograph in front of. It's must be the
box it came in"
Also in the bag is a piece of parchment on which is written "P-47". The lettering is old English in style
"P-47, what does that mean to you?"
"Nothing....yet"
The snap of a twig draws Jarod's attention away and he sees someone draped in what looks like the cowl topped outfits that the monks wear, walking through the wood
"So much for being alone on the island" he tells Miss Parker.
The two of them rush off in pursuit of the person who is walking through the woods. Jarod catches up in short order
"Hey....Ocee, why don't you leave with the others?"
"Ocee born here, Ocee died here, then she got off the island all right"
"The who got off the island?"
"The woman with a scarlat hair, your mother of course"
"How you know she was my mother?"
"You're Jarod aren't you?"
Jarod is astonished!
PART 8
Back at Ocee's shop, Ocee tells Jarod
"Your mother came to me for herbs, complaining of headaches. But it was easy, even for a blind woman to see, that it was her heart that was aching and she feared for her life.
Jarod asks
"Ocee what was my mother searching for?"
Ocee touches Jarod's face and tells him
"Find out who you are"
"What do you mean? Who I am?"
"All I knows is what she spoken. She and another woman, had been trying to discover the truth for a long time"
Turning toward Miss Parker, Ocee says
"That must have been your
mother"
Miss Parker looks surprised, then says
"Are you sure you're blind?"
"Sight may come from ones eyes, but the vision comes from ones heart"
Miss Parker isn't ready to deal with that and turns to Jarod and says
"Jarod, if your mother was searching for something in the chapel, maybe the little girl could tell us what it
was"
"What girl?"
"I was lead to the chapel by a little girl with long, light brown hair"
"Little girl an this island? Are you sure?"
"Lady I'm the one who knows what I saw"
Jarod dismisses the talk about the little girl
"Girl or not, Ocee tell me, what was my mother searching for?"
"She was searching for the scrolls, of course"
At the centre, Mr. Parker sits, staring forward, unmoving. Adama stands before him, seemingly contemplating something. Mr. Lyle enters through the white curtains and tells Adama
"Any change?"
"You have a purpose for being here?"
"Yes, you have a call coming in from Africa......uh it's been requested that you take it on a secure line.
There's one at the end of the hall"
With one last look at Mr. Parker, Adama follows Lyle's lead and heads down the hall.
Immediately, Mr. Raines parts the curtains on the other side of the enclosure and approaches Mr. Parker.
"Put him through....okay, it's just a second"
Mr. Raines begins talking to Mr. Parker
"It sadden me to see you in this way. I know you're in great turn well. That's why I'm here..I came out of love"
Adama is annoyed at the delay in the call
"I'm sure the call will be coming through any second"
"You and I have always been closer than anyone here has ever known
every suspected, I know you have never truly acknowledge our relationship, especially to Catherine, but because of our bond, I had to come. Tell me the truth, are you faking this?...Please tell me..I can help, I want
to help you..I want to show you something"
Raines shows Mr. Parker the picture of Catherine and Margaret, taken in front of the
Sports Bar wall.
"It's the truth, isn't it?"
Getting no response, Raines grabs Mr. Parker's lapels
"Damn it all! Tell me the truth, we don't have much time!"
In the hallway with Adama, Lyle has been assuring him that the dead phone line will soon spring to life with his call,
all the while, keeping a watchful eye on the curtained enclosure where Mr. Parker has been sitting, immobile. But Adama is tired of waiting and begins to head back toward Mr. Parker.
"What are you doing?" ask
Lyle.
"If it's urgent I'm certain they call back"
"Adama wait, Adama, Adama wait"
He opens the curtains with both hands, and briskly enters the enclosure. Mr. Parker sits, seemingly unmoved. Adama tells one of his men to stay with Mr. Parker
"Don't leave him alone"
Lyle is visibly relieved to find Mr. Parker where he belongs and Mr. Raines nowhere in sight. Although no one else seems to notice, Lyle sees a single tear streaming down Mr. Parker's face, then turns and follows Adama back out of the enclosure, leaving one of Adama's men behind to keep watch.
PART 9
In the island Ocee has taken Jarod and Miss Parker to the crypt room
"What is this place?" ask Miss Parker
"It's the crypt room, It was built on the
souls of the original monk warriors who brought the scrolls to the island and founded the
order.....literally on their souls. Legional Carthis is...when brother Vespus and his disciples returned from the crusades, they brought with them mystic scrolls of biblical proportions"
"Like the holy grail, something like that"
"Something exatly like that. Monks had gave their
solemn word to Pope Innocent that to bury the scrolls in the sea, but instead, they brought them to here and hid them. In the centuries, secret destiny of come to the
isle, seeking the scrolls and their mystic power, many searchers have ventured into the woods, never to return at all.
To said that the fate of the one who dares defile the scrolls will be filled with eternal
damnation"
Confused and concerned, Jarod says
"And here my mother was trying to find them?"
"The scrolls and everything about the man whose footsteps we now both
walk in"
"I don't understand"
"Many believe that a hundred years ago, the crypt-keeper this facility found the Vespusian scrolls.
It is said that he planned to leave Carthis with
them, and he was made to pay a devastating price for his bargain with the devil.
That night, by his hand, his entire family burned to death in their
cottage"
Miss Parker is appalled.
"My God!"
"He left the island the next morn"
Jarod asks her
"And what about the scrolls?"
"No one knows for sure where they are, or for
what matter what. Some say that they are gospels, written in the hand of God. Others, scribbling's from the paw of Satin. Whatever they are, they contain a power no man should
encounter"
Jarod tells Ocee
"My mother was also searching for something called "P-47"
Ocee tells him
"The island is parceled out in numbered plots, all
of which are registered at the Monacal's archives, ...come I'll show you."
As the storm begins to break, Ocee leads Jarod and Miss Parker at the archives
"The answers you search for are in that building, come on"
Miss Parker is trailing the group and is distracted once again by the laughter of the small girl.
"In the chapel"
The girl puts her finger to her lips, motioning for Miss Parker to be quiet, then gestures for her to follow.
Miss Parker yells ahead to Ocee and Jarod, saying
"I'll meet you inside"
"The storm is getting worse, don't stay out too
long"
Miss Parker runs down the street in the direction of the little girl.
At The Centre, Broots is telling Sydney
"Miss Parker had pulled a vanish act and never guess who she talk to last"
When they find Angelo, he is drawing the symbol with the eight skeletal heads on it.
"See? Look at what he is drawing, Syd...the same symbol that Jarod was investigating"
At the top of the symbol that Angelo is drawing on the wall are the words
"And those words"
"Terribilis est locus iste"
"It doesn't a sound good, what does it mean?"
Sydney tells Broots
"Terrible things happen here"
"Great"
Back on the island, the little girl has lead Miss Parker back to the Chapel of the Souls. Those words are written over the door, and with the storm crashing behind her, Miss Parker enters.
It's dark inside, so Miss Parker takes one of the red votive candles from the table by the door and holds it in front of her, calling
"Where are you?" to the little girl
The child is standing by the confessional booths and answers, the Scottish lilt in her voice making the words seem almost musical
"In the chapel"
"What's in the chapel?"
As soon as Miss Parker sees her, the little girl dashes into one of the confessional booths.
"Wait!"
Following her, Miss Parker opens the door and finds a doll sitting on a red velvet chair. The doll is a little girl, wearing a white sailor outfit. She is so absorbed, looking at it, that she gasps and jumps when a gloved hand falls on her shoulder. Turning, Miss Parker is relieved to find that it is only Jarod
"It's me"
"Where is she?"
"Ocee is back to the cottage"
"No, no Ocee. The little girl"
"The little girl?"
"Yeah"
"There's nobody here but
us"
"She was here, and she lead me to that"
Jarod looks at the doll and determines that it is the doll that should have been in the blue box, with the heart carved on the lid.
"It must be the doll from the box"
"Maybe your mother dropped it when she was shot"
"Or she hid here. She must be here searching for something, and she
was a "P-47"
"Did you find where is?"
"And what. It's the cottage where the crypt-keeper murdered his
family.....lets get out of here"
Snow is beginning to fall as Jarod and Miss Parker approach the remains of the crypt-keeper's cottage.
"There it is P-47"
"Or it's left to it"
"I've never seen rain and snow at the same time"
"Well, it is the devil storm"
Everything that wasn't constructed of stone was burned, leaving only a skeletal version of what the cottage must have been before. As Miss Parker approaches the site on which the cottage stood, she gets a mental flash of the night that the crypt-keeper burned it and can hear the cries of a terrified child begging her father to not do it as the cottage bursts into flame.
"How could the man have destroyed his family, just so that he could pursue his greed and
power?"
"Why don't you ask your father that?"
Miss Parker has no answer.
Lightening flashes, turning night into day for a moment, and Jarod notices that there is a muddy boot print inside of the cottage, the same boot print that he and Miss Parker saw in the chapel.
"What is it?"
"It's a muddy boot print, just like we saw in the chapel, and it's
fresh"
Jarod looks up and sees a figure wearing monks robes walking in the woods, not far away
"Hey!"
He screams, and the mysterious stranger begins to run. Jarod takes chase and Miss Parker is ready to follow suit, when the little girl tells her
"There's nothing for you over there, it's over here, follow me"
The little girl runs off into the woods and Miss Parker runs after her, calling out to her to
"Wait, wait!"
In another section of the woods, the person that Jarod was chasing turns and clubs Jarod with his wooden staff, causing Jarod to tumble down a small hill. He's not seriously injured from the fall, but has lost the mysterious stranger.
"Wait for me"
As the snow turns to a driving rain, Miss Parker realizes that the little girl has lead her into an old graveyard. Miss Parker's face turns to one of anguished surprise as she looks at the rows of chiseled headstones. She's drenched from the cold rain, but doesn't seem to notice. Jarod comes up behind her, holding his arms around himself, as if to keep warm in the freezing rain that is soaking him, too.
"Miss Parker, are you all right? What's wrong?"
But Miss Parker hardly hears him and she says to Jarod
"She lead me here so I'd know where I come from"
she says to Jarod
Her voice raw with emotion. Jarod doesn't understand and asks Miss Parker
"What you mean?"
Gesturing to the headstones, Miss Parker screams over the torrent of rain
"The crypt-keeper's family!"
Jarod looks at the headstones in front of Miss Parker and realizes that the name on them is "Parker"
"They're who I am!"
Cries a tormented Miss Parker as she sinks to her knees in front of them.
PART 10
"Brother Menencious
was right, it is the devil's storm. We are lucky to make it back alive"
Looking out the window at the torrent of rain, Jarod says
"It's not just the storm. We aren't alone here"
Ocee has a fire roaring in the fireplace
"You're shivery. You give me your wet clothes to
dry"
Jarod takes off his sweater and examines a bruise on his arm.
"Then, my feeling was justified"
"Feeling?"
"My feeling that the only good thing that is left on
the island is connection between you and Miss Parker"
She holds out a saucer with a cup of tea on it.
"No, thank you."
"It's not for you"
As Jarod looks up at Ocee, she keeps the saucer extended toward Jarod
"Go to her"
Jarod gives Ocee a long look, but eventually takes the saucer from her hand. He
walks through a set of drapes, into the room where Miss Parker should be, and
arrives in time to see her outline as she changes out of her wet clothes, behind
a screen. Transfixed, he watches for a moment longer than he should, then lowers
his eyes.
When Miss Parker emerges from behind the screen, wrapping a thick bathrobe
around her, she pauses for a moment and looks at Jarod, but says nothing. Jarod
advances toward her, with the cup of tea.
"It's not exatly the monk's brandy, but Ocee said
that it was good for emotion upheaval"
"And she back a truckload of it up to
my house?"
She walks to the fireplace to warm herself and Jarod puts on a thermal shirt.
"The storm rage outside Miss Parker, not inside
you"
"It's easy for you to say Jarod. Graveyard full of
Parker's burned of death by their father, my great-grandfather. The same year
the my great-grandfather arrived, alone, and founded The Centre. For generation
after generation, that evil... has been passed down to me"
"You know who you are"
"I'm a Parker and with every new revelation in my
life, my family portrait becomes a more hideous picture".
She sits on the hearth, in front of the fireplace, and Jarod offers her the tea
once again. This time, she takes it and Jarod sits on the hearth, beside her.
"Do you remember, when we were kids, that night, that
I sneaked you into my father's office?"
"You said that if I was really a genius, I'd be able
to figure out where he hid the present that he bought you on his business trip
... and you found it, exactly where I said it would be."
He smiles at the memory.
"Yeah, only It wasn't I just told you that it was
because I was so disappointed. My father had lied about buying it. The pathetic
part is that I've been searching for that gitf from daddy every since"
"Your father, the Centre, manipulation is what they
do, and the only present they ever left either of us was emptiness"
"The parker's graves out there go way beyond empty.
Which brings me back to wondering..."
Jarod finishes the sentence for her, saying
"..who it is you really are."
Miss Parker gives Jarod a long look. His face is bright, illuminated by the fire
behind them both. She sets the saucer and tea cup on the hearth behind them and
says
"I don't know now If I find ever really and I wants
to know"
Leaning closer to her, he says
"Yes, yes you do."
Seeing that she's still cold, Jarod leans over and grabs a blanket, which he
wraps around her shoulders. Uncertain how to react to his kindness, Miss Parker
hesitates a moment, but then takes the edges of the blanket and pulls them close
around her.
"The Centre wants us to believe that finding the
truth is a mistake, that looking for answers about who we really are is futile
and, finding any kind of.." he hesitates for a
moment while he and Miss Parker exchange a look "..connection
outside of their control is wrong. I know that you don't want to hear it, but
you can feel it. You have been the Centre's prisoner all these years just like
me, and with every discovery you find you, you're every bit the outcast...just
like me"
Their faces are close together now - voices low, the fire dancing behind them,
they continue the conversation.
"Why is it that one person that I've been trained, to
distrust, to hate, to capture, it's always with me, during the most difficult
moment of my life?"
"Maybe...."
says Jarod, his voice barely above a whisper, as he moves his mouth closer to
hers
"...it's supposed to be that way"
Jarod moves no further, and in the fraction of a second that marks his pause,
Miss Parker slowly and carefully, begins to close the remaining distance between
them.
When their lips are so close to touching that it seems inevitable that they will
kiss, Ocee comes through the drapes.
"I don't want to interrupt"
she says, startling both of them and shattering the moment that they both
seemed, only a second before, to have been longing to arrive
"But would anyone care for more tea?"
Miss Parker covers her face with her hands while Jarod turns his face away with
just the slightest sign of an amused smile. The spell broken, the moment
completely lost
"Ocee, please let me help you... thank you"
Miss Parker and Jarod exchange glances, but say nothing more. Then Ocee removes
a book from a shelf and Miss Parker sees a drawing of the little girl who has
been leading her all over the island. In the drawing, the child is holding the
doll and they are both wearing white sailor dresses.
"It's her"
"Who?"
Miss Parker removes the drawing from the shelf to examine it more closely
"It's the little girl that lead me to the
chapel"
"Can not be that little girl"
"It is her, and she holding the doll"
"Impossible. This little girl is the crypt-keeper's
daughter. She's been dead a hundred years"
In Miss Parker's office Broots says
"Sid, I'm worry about Miss Parker"
In a low voice Sidney says
"Me too, I'm afraid are no answers to her where
abouts here"
"Her house either. I'm invited myself in through her
bathroom window"
Leaning closer to Sydney, Broots says
"Look at this, I wasn't the only one who had broken
her house looking for, someone else besides us is damn interested in finding her
too. I wonder where she is"
Both Sydney and Broots turn in response to a sudden tapping on the window to
Miss Parker's office.
"Angelo"
"What's he trying to tell us?"
He leads them back to the symbol he's drawn on the wall
"Terribilis est locus iste"
"Terrible things happen here"
"Terrible things happen where?"
Angelo moves aside and the numbers 19-240-86 are revealed. He has written them
on the wall, beside the symbol
"19-240-86. What's it mean, Angelo?"
"All about the Parker's, truth about the Parker's....
Terrible things"
In the Ocee's shop, Ocee says
"This sketch is a self-portrait of the little Parker
girl, she gave it to the priest in the chapel, Father Theo, on the day she
died"
"What a tragedy"
"Oh yes, theirs and his"
"His?"
"The night that the crypt-keeper's family burned to
death, Father Theo also died. Mistery accident. It supposedly he fell in the
chapel balcony. My father was good friend of Father Theo, and got all of his
personal items, including the sketch of "Angel", which was clutched in
his hands when he died".
Miss Parker stops looking at the sketch and gives Ocee her full attention at the
mention of the name, "Angel."
"Did you just called her Angel?"
"That's what her father called her. Does that mean
something to you?"
"Everything mean something"
Jarod takes the sketch from Miss Parker
"If Father Theo was clutching it when he died, that
mean something to, then we find everything we can about Father Theo"
Ocee tells them
"All is belongings are in the archive chamber"
PART
11
In the archive chamber, Miss Parker is looking at one of the stone gargoyles.
She says
"Evil scrolls, ghosts and a little family
arson are all a perfect Parker fit. Call me crazy, but I'm ready to believe
in curses"
Jarod tells her
"A cursed or not, the scrolls believed of
so-called value that our mothers are willy to risk their lives to find them. Here's
Father Theo's chest just where Ocee said it would be"
He pulls Father Theo's chest out and begins to
examine the contents. On top there is a cracked and creased picture of Father
Theo, holding his bible to his chest.
"Meet Father Theo"
Next to the picture sits the bible from the picture.
"Humble belongingses of a humble man... and a
dead end"
"Maybe...or
maybe not"
"What?"
Jarod notices that
"You
see how
the binding is loose in a photo here, but it's been re-stitched here"
Using a knife from his pocket, he loosens the binding
in the spot depicted in the picture and finds a secreted letter
"The letter that Father Theo wrote to
his Bishop in Glascow...it's dated the day of Father Theo's
died"
Miss Parker takes the letter from Jarod and
reads it aloud.
"Bless me your holidness for I break
the sanctity of the confessional and I commit this words to
paper. This evening the daughter of the
local crypt-keeper speak
words
of such terror that the quill quivery in my hand as I write . Her father, she
claims, discover and stole the long
sought scrolls of Vespus. The demons has now turned the once loving man into a
tormented soul. In trying to save he from eternal damnation, she took and
re-hide the scrolls along with three other items.....a leather pouch, a
porcelain doll and an eerily accurate self portrait. She said that the items
were to remember her by, as though she had realized that her time upon this
earth were nearing its end. Her words regarding the scolls terrorize me
holidness. When she told the location of the
scrolls, she holds the key to finding them still.
It's unfinished"
"It must be interrupt while he wrote
this, and hid it in the bible, so it won't be falling into the wrong hands"
Miss Parker says
My great-grandfather must have discovered that
his little girl had confessed of Father Theo and killed her, trying to find the
scrolls....She tried to save her father
from the his own demons
knowing it would cost her life"
Jarod re-reads the part of Father Theo's
letter and says
"Father Theo writes..."she holds
the key to finding the scroll still....she holds the key.."
Then looks at the self-portrait and realizes
that the little girl is holding her doll in it.
"Not her"
A light of realization goes on in Jarod's eyes
as he pulls out the doll from his tote bag. He tells Miss Parker
"Your great-grandfather must have
brought it to America, and my mother brought it back for her search. She holds
the key"
Jarod smashes the doll and finds a small key
inside. Miss Parker says
"Father Theo hid the scrolls
and put the key to find it inside her doll"
"And I know what it opens"
Behind the gargoyles, a figure in monks robes,
holding a walking staff, moves quietly away.
At
the Centre Broots says
"I
figured out what the numbers meant, those once that Angelo wrote..19, SL 19,
240, Row 240, 86, Lockbox number 86, so I broke it and I found this"
"Medical
records"
"A
death certificate, an adoption certificate and a birth certificate, all issued
within three days of each other and all in the Parker family name"
"Seems,
Mr Parker had a brother"
"His name was Able Parker, who almost died at birth, then spent three sickly days in an incubator a rushed adoption was arranged and the baby was sent off and this, I can't unbelievable this, Mr. Parker's father bought and paid for the phony death certificate, all in the name of Able Paker, like the baby didn't even exist, like...like...the weak ring of the Parker family tree is cut off"
"It's
unbelievable Broots"
"No,
you have seen nothing yet. Look at the name of the family that adopted the
baby”
"Raines!"
"Or
I'm crazy, or it's means that Mr Raines, is really..."
"...Mr
Parker's brother"
Jarod and Miss Parker are back in the Chapel of Souls and she is asking Jarod
"So
what does the key fits?"
He
tells her
"Under
the alter at the catholic church there is a secret chamber that hides the relics
of each church's patron saint"
Jarod
finds the chamber and pulls out a wooden box, with a cross on it.
"Here goes nothing"
The
key fits, the box opens, but there are no scrolls.
"Angel's
leather
pouch"
Brother
Menencious strides up and says
"I
will take it"
"Brother
Menencious"
"Give
me the pouch"
Miss
Parker pulls her gun, but the brother bats her hand away with his staff, then
knocks Jarod over with it, too. Miss
Parker tries again to aim her gun, and again she is clubbed with the staff.
Brother Menencious flees the room and Jarod and Miss Parker chase him up a
flight of stairs. Miss Parker has her gun in front of her, aimed and ready to
shoot, as they search for him, but somehow he manages to get behind them and,
suddenly, is standing in the doorway, holding a torch. Jarod asks him
"Tell
me something...Brother. Why don't you leave the isle? Too busy trying to kill my
mother? Too busy trying to keep us from the truth?
Brother
Menencious says
"In
700 years there has always been a Vespusian Brother on this island to protect
the scrolls, I wasn't going
to
be the one to leave them now unguarded. As far as your mother I
don't know what you speak"
"Dont'
you lie to me"
"It
isn't about lies. Since you won't give me the pouch, you can return to Hell with
it!"
He
tips over a barrel and ignites the contents with the torch, setting the entire
room ablaze.
"He's
locked us in Jarod. These barrels are going to blow, there's no way out"
Looking
behind them, Jarod sees a stained glass window - it's the only way out.
"There's
one....come on!"
He
and Miss Parker run toward and leap through the window, just as the barrels
behind them cause a tremendous explosion. They
fall down three stories onto a gravel laden slope, but, amazingly are completely
unscathed!
"Are
you all right?"
"I've
been better"
They
hear a gunshot and Miss Parker says
"Ocee!"
"Come
on"
They
run to look for her and find her, dying, on the steps.
"Ocee!"
Jarod
lifts her head and asks her
"Ocee,
did Menencious do this?"
"No, destiny just the curse of scrolls"
SCENA 12
Back at Ocee's shop, Jarod ask Miss Parker
"Are you all right?"
"Confused.....Do
you believe what Ocee said about the scrolls being cursed?"
"It doesn't matter what believe, too many
people are dying, trying to find them"
He opens a piece of paper that was inside of Angel's pouch. On it, she has
sketched
"A demon, a serpent and a cherub, all of them
looking at something"
"And it's in Angel's hand, it's her
sketch"
No, it's not just a sketch, it's a map, directions
left by the crypt-keeper's daughter, to tell them where she re-hid the
scrolls"
"But what she telling us?"
"They know where it is, they can see it"
"But where are they?"
"I know where one of them is"
They are back in the crypt room, and Jarod finds the demon Asmodeus
"Meet the demon Asmodeus"
"Ugly son of a bitch. Reminds me of Raines.
All he is staring ar is a blank wall"
"Perhaps"
When Jarod scrapes some of the dirt of the past century away, there is something
written on the wall.
"I tego...what's it mean?"
"Byself probably nothing, but my guess is that
the cherub and the serpent both looking the words, clues that lead us to the
scolls"
"Jarod!"
In an ante room, Jarod and Miss Parker find brother Menencious.
"Brother Menencious!"
He has been murdered, stabbed in the back.
"Something tells me he's not the one that kill
Ocee"
"Someone doesn't want we to find the scrolls.
You take the serpent, I'll take the cherub" she
rips Angel's 100 year old "map" to the scrolls in half "and
watch you back we not alone"
As Miss Parker is looking outside for the cherub, she sees Angel again.
"Hello!"
When the child runs off, Miss Parker leaves her lantern behind and gives chase.
Angel leads Miss Parker to a cherub, carved on a door.
"I carved it myself"
"It's beautiful"
"I hope your find which you're looking
for"
On the fence rail behind her, Miss Parker finds the word "arcana"
carved.
"Oh..thank you Angel"
She turns back to see Angel, but the child is gone. On the other side of the
rails, Miss Parker sees the child, weeping, in front of a grave. The little girl
looks at Miss Parker and says
"Papa's the only one who calls me
"Angel", my friends call me "Miss Parker"
When the child runs off again, the headstone of the grave is visible. It reads, "Rest
In Peace Little Miss Parker" Miss Parker is stunned into silence.
Meanwhile, Jarod is walking around, holding his lantern high, searching for the
serpent. He turns around and looks up and finds it. The serpent is overlooking a
bench, on which the word "Dei" is carved. He's startled by Miss
Parker, who rushes up to tell him
"I found what the angel was looking at, the
word "arcana"
"The serpent, is looking at "dei....I
tego arcana dei"
"But there is no box that the firgures are
looking at with those words on it"
"Yes, there's one"
Miss Parker follows him.
At the Centre, Broots tells Sydney
"I have got a bad feeling about this"
"About what?"
"I was passing by the infermery and that's
when I saw it?"
"You saw what?"
"Nothing, none, nada"
"Broots, what are you talking about?"
"Look around, Adama, the Triumvirate muscle,
Mr. Lyle, Mr. Parker, they all gone, they vanish just
like Miss Parker"
"Call her cell phone every
five minutes if you have to, but I dont know what any of this means, you've got
to find her"
On the island Jarod and Miss Parker are in the room where the bodies of the
original monk/warriors are entombed. Their stone coffins surround a long
monument that has a triangle carved on the top of it. Jarod brushes the dirt off
of the triangle and finds the words "I tego arcana dei" chiseled into
it.
"I tego arcana dei...what's it mean?"
"Be gone, for I conceal the secrets of
God"
"Lets see what secret God has for us"
Together they push the heavy stone lid until it opens enough to reveal a set of
two scrolls, lying on the skeleton of brother Vespus.
"It must be brother Vespus"
"And this must be the scrolls"
Jarod removes them only to find himself being held at gunpoint by brother
Renaldus. The brother says
"Aye, our scrolls. We knew that you could find
them, but we were
never able to"
"You must be one that the kill Ocee, and
brother Menencious"
"And you are the one that tried to kill my
mother"
"Acts the done for God good works shall always
remains acts a piety and now give me the scrolls"
Suddenly, brother Renaldus is shot from behind, and to Jarod and Miss Parker's
surprise, Mr. Parker walks through the door, followed by Mr. Raines.
"Daddy?" says
an unbelieving Miss Parker
"I'm sure as Hell not Santa Claus,"
answers Mr. Parker "brother
Renaldus has been my faithful servant for years but God does not forgive acts of
aggression against one's mother and neither do I right
angel?
Raines says
"Now I can radio Adama that we have the
scrolls.... and Jarod"
As Raines leaves the room, Mr. Parker declares
"Long live the Centre"
At the Centre Sydney tells Broots
"I've seen some bizarre things in my time, but
nothing to compare with this"
"What is it Sidney?"
Handing Broots a folder, Sydney tells him
"Mr. Parker's genetic test results"
"So Mr Parker isn't really your
father?...."oh, my God! Sid, I don't believe this!"
SCENA 13
At Glascow International Airport in Glascow, Scotland, Mr. Parker and Mr. Raines
meet with Mr. Lyle and Adama to hand over the scrolls, which are now back in
their case, where they belong.
"Finally"
Mr. Parker reminds him
"Adama you know a Parker never breaks his
promise, specially when concerns the scrolls"
"The look forward to communicate in my
pleasant to my superior in Africa once in flight"
In the back seat of the car in which Mr. Parker arrived sit Miss Parker and
Jarod. Miss Parker rolls down the heavily tinted window to watch the
proceedings. Jarod says
"I can't help but to imagine our mothers
holding the box with instead of them. I can't help but imagine a different
ending to all of this"
Miss Parker asks Jarod
"What am I supposed to do, Jarod?"
"Only you can answer that, I just hates to see
anyone miss a turning point, when one is staring them
right in the face"
"And I suppose you're gonna open my eyes"
"No you don't need me do that. Only you can
decide for yourself wether or not to take a hard look at your life. The way your
mother once did"
"Leave my mother out of this, ok? I'm not
her"
"Then who are you? Your father? Mr Parker's
legancy wanna you pass on to you children? Look we have been through a lot
togheter you and me, from we were kids at the Centre, to last couple days. I
know that our leason it's not the same but I've always felt....I've always known
that there was something more to our lives than I run and you chase"
Miss Parker tells Jarod
"Maybe we do what we have to, to get by in this life, Jarod"
Jarod tells Miss Parker
"Maybe we both deserve something more"
Stammering slightly over the words, Miss Parker tells Jarod
"Just....just forget what happened on that
island, forget that moment of weakness. Turning points
only come when you've got something to turn
to"
Jarod looks deeply pained by what he is hearing and makes one last gesture to
try to recapture what they experienced by reaching over and grasping her gloved
hand in his manacled ones. Miss Parker allows the contact for a moment, then
pulls away, saying
"I'm sorry, but this isn't the different
ending you were looking for, it's just the damn story goes Jarod"
Adama's men approach the car and open the door. Miss Parker steps out. As she
walks up to her father, Adama's men take Jarod toward the plane.
"It's a wonderful things about life Miss
Parker, if you change the story, the endings is up to you"
Miss Parker tells her father
"Let's go daddy"
And turns to head toward the plane herself, but her father tells her
"Hold it, you're not going on this
flight"
"What?"
Seeing the look on Miss Parker's face, her father tells her
"Not get all bent out of shape, I will explain
it all to you back in Blue Cove"
Miss Parker isn't satisfied with that answer. She reminds her father
"But daddy, the last time that I saw you, you
was in a catatonics stupor and..."
He
interrupts her, telling her
"It
was only something that I cooked up with Lyle and Raines, to keep the Africans
sniffing up the wrong flagpole while she and Jarod found the prize"
Miss Parker asks him
"Daddy
is it true, the "Parker" that found the scrolls is the my
great-grandfather, and what about the scrolls is it true that they hold some
kind of power?"
"Not
now we will sort everything out back at the Centre, that's final just take a
couple of days at the London house. It will do you good"
He gives her a brief kiss on the cheek and moves off toward the plane, the
scrolls and Adama, leaving her standing there. Her cell phone rings.
Miss Parker is so puzzled by all that has transpired, that she answers the phone
"Hello?"
Sydney and Broots are so happy to hear her voice that it momentarily escapes
them that she did not answer the phone in her usual way.
Parker,
thank's God"
"It's us Miss Parker...we're been so
worried... did you was say hello?"
"What
Broots?"
"We're
been trying to get in touch with you for days, where are you been?"
"Someone
between Hell and the turning point"
"No,
this is Hell, trust me and it's getter hotter by the second"
"Did
you find my father's
blood sample?"
"Blood?
No, the only sample we got was semen"
"And, is my father my father?"
Sydney tells Miss Parker
"The
genetic lab did detect pattern similarities so technically, you and your
father....could be a match"
Miss Parker says
"Technically
was hardly the rousing endorsment that I was hoping for"
Broots tells her
"Well, see the things is the that your
father's soda seems to be flat"
Not understanding, Miss Parker asks Sydney
"Sidney
what is he
talking about?
"A
sample of Mr. Parker's sperm count is so low. He is virtually sterile so the
probability of him siring an offspring of him is probability small"
"How small?"
"The odds of his ability he will ever be a
father is...uh...one to ten"
Miss Parker wants to know
"How
he can be a genetic match if he's not be my father?"
"The
only biological explanation is that your father could actually be your
uncle"
"I
don't have an uncle"
Miss Parker hisses back at Broots.
"Parker,
there were futher revelation"
"We found records, things that tells us your
father actually did have a brother whose give an adoption three days after he's
born"
"And the adopted family was name Raines"
"And
you tell me that Mr Raines could actually be my father?"
But before Sydney can answer, Mr. Raines sees Miss Parker looking at him and
smiles at her. Pulling the cell phone away from her face, she says
"Oh,
I thinks I've going to vomit"
The plane takes off and Lyle, Raines and Mr. Parker go into the area where Jarod
is being held. Mr. Parker is holdng the box with the scrolls
"Adama
has authenticated the scrolls for the Triumvirate, he's the happiest Zulu this
side of Rampala. No surprise there"
"Yeah,
and I had my fill of surprises too, about the one I just got about who my real
father is"
SCENA 14
Her comment has stunned all of them to silence
"I'm
still waiting for my answer"
she says
"Not
now, Angel" replies Mr. Parker
"Don't...angel..me,
I
wanna know which one of you two is my real father...NOW!"
"Wait
no. I don't know, what this paternity suit is about, but I do know that this is
not the time or the place for it, now when we back in Blue Cove, if we get back,
we can talk about family matter then"
"What
do you mean if?"
"Adama
think that you bad luck we certainly don't want him to be
sospicious"
"Sospicious
of what?"
Jarod explains it to her.
"You Miss Parker, you're
being on board fails their planned double crossing Adama and a Triumvirate, now
that the scrolls has authenticated, Mr Lyle and your father...or just I says
fathers were parachuting off planning on the plane with their "prized"
possessions ... the scrolls and me. Unfortunately, I only see four parachutes
and you Miss Parker make...five"
"What's
the advantage betray the Triumvirate?"
"The suppose power the so-called
prophesies have been leverage that the Centre have been using for years to keep
the Triumvirate at bay. You people don't really believes those things are real
do you?"
Mr. Parker answers
"The only things
that really matters, is that the Zylu's believe"
"So, if the scrools became a possession at the
Triumvirate in Africa the Centre's power base is history. I'm guessing that your
mother discovered this years ago"
"And she found the scrolls then...."
"She would have had all the leverage of The
Centre"
"Or the leverage to end it"
Miss Parker approaches her father and asks him
"Are we getting warm?"
But before he can answer, Adama enters the room
"Parker, why she is on board?"
Mr. Parker says
"Oh, she just wanted to surprise your father,
that's all"
Adama tells his men
"Take these three forward"
The men take Mr. Raines, Mr. Lyle and Miss Parker forward, leaving him alone
with Mr. Parker, the scrolls and Jarod. Adama tells Mr. Parker
"Lock up the scrolls"
Then heads for the front of the plane himself. As Mr. Parker goes to lock
up the scrolls, Jarod begins to taunt him, asking him
"Let me ask you a question? Did you ever love
her? Because of what the little affection you have given her over the years she
craves"
"I love my daughter more that it on this
planet"
"More than those scrolls? I think that is
pathetic it was for you to fashion his entire life around.....and you have never
seen"
Mr. Parker says
"I've learned the secrets from my grand-father
and there was nothing pathetic about his legacy, young man"
Jarod reminds Mr. Parker
"Oh yes, burning his family to death, that's a
Hell legancy to pass at your...how I call now...daughter?...Come on hundreds of
people, over thousands of years, have sacrificed their lives to can glimpse of
those scrolls, and now you holds them in your hands, aren't you a little
curious....all that....power"
Mr. Parker gives in to the lure. He opens the box and begins to untie the fabric
in which the scrolls are wrapped.
At the front of the plane, Lyle, Mr. Raines and Miss Parker are all walking
forward.
"Make sure they're clean"
"Not today cow boy"
Adama has his men frisk Lyle and Raines, Miss Parker hands over her gun before
the man can touch her Lyle asks
"You mind if I get a blanket? You keep these
damn jet as cold as morgues"
"Get your damn blanket and sit down"
Instead of a blanket, however, Lyle pulls out a gun that has a silencer on it.
At the same time, Mr. Raines pulls out a gun from the seat where he is sitting.
Together, they quickly dispatch Adama and the guards.
Miss Parker gets out of her seat and says
"So, Jarod was right!"
Mr. Raines tells her
"You tell Mr. Parker we're on to get
ready"
"Ready for what?"
"Just do it"
Then he and Raines continue forward, toward the cockpit of the plane. Taking her
gun back from Adama's dead henchman, Miss Parker moves toward the back of the
plane.
Mr. Raines and Mr. Lyle enter the cockpit and force the pilot and co-pilot to
change course at gunpoint.
"Adjust air speed to 200 knots, then descend
to 13,000"
"And put the plane on auto-pilot...now"
At the back of the plane, Mr. Parker closes the lid on the scrolls. Setting the
box with the scrolls down, Mr. Parker begins to put on one of the parachutes.
Jarod asks him
"Going someplace?"
Mr. Parker tells him
"Just taking a journey that someone should
have taken a long time ago..." as he disables
the remaining parachutes, Mr. Parker adds one last word to his reply
"...alone"
Miss Parker enters just as Mr. Parker is heading for the door of the plane.
Alarmed at what she see, she asks her father
"What
in the hell are you doing?"
Mr. Parker says
"I've
read the scrolls, angel, and I'm returning them to the sea, it's the only way to
stop the Parker madness, the madness that started The Centre"
"What?"
"The
scrolls are real and so it is the pain that they inflicted especially on your
mother. I know that now, I know that...." as
he picks up the box that holds the scrolls Mr. Parker says "..It's
time to fulfill her wish and send this evil back where it belongs. It's
controlled our family for too long Hang on to something, angel, you can't come
with me this time"
In the cockpit, the pilot tells Mr. Raines and Mr. Lyle
"We're
at 14,000 feet and descending and the autopilot has been set to the coordinates
that you requested"
"Then
your services will no longer be needed"
Says Mr. Raines, and Mr. Lyle shoots both the pilot and the co-pilot.
Miss Parker asks her father
"Daddy are you just going to leave me there to die?"
"No,
no you'll be all right, that's not how they say that it ends"
Tears in her eyes, Miss Parker pleads with her father, telling him
"Wait,
daddy...I have to know...are you my real father?"
Mr. Parker tells her
"I
love you as my daughter, and that's all that counts. Don't be sad, the new
Parker legacy begins with you. God be with you, angel"
He says, then blows the door and leaps out of the plane.
"Wait!"
The sudden decompression of the plane throws it off course and fries the
electronics.
In
the cockpit Mr Lyle tells Mr Raines
"What the hell's going on?"
"We
lost electronics. The glide path will disintgrate. Get to the cargo hold"
Mr.
Raines and Mr. Lyle make their way to the back of the plane and Mr Raines tells
Miss Parker
"What
happened?"
"Daddy
jumped with the scrolls and there's no parachute"
Mr.
Raines says
"Flight crew dead and the electronics are damaged...what hell did we now?"
Jarod
tells them
"I suggest you take the handcuffs off of the one person that can fly the plane and allow me to try to save your lives"
Lyle
and Raines hesitate. Miss Parker screams
"DO
IT!"
And
Lyle moves to remove Jarod's handcuffs.
Jarod
rushes to look at the control panel then says
"I
have to get to the cockpit. Miss Parker, come with me"
Miss
Parker to go with him and she immediately follows. The noise from the wind
rushing through the open door is so loud that no one can be heard without
screaming.
Once
in the cockpit, Jarod quickly assesses the damage to the plane
"Autocontrol
is down we have to fly the rest of the way manually the electronics is gone
which means no gaugesand no landing gear. This is the latest coordance the
flight computer printed out. Use those number's to find the matching landing
area"
"Got it, Mahuay airport, Morocco. Can you make that?"
"I'd
better. Here's a toolkit. Get to the rear of the plane. I'll gonna shout out the
rest of the instructions. Unless we fix these blown out electronics. We're going
down"
At
the control panels, Lyle is ready to do the re-wiring needed to circumvent the
damaged areas.
"Lyle!
Of the three panels the midle one is burnt out. We need to circument it and
re-establish the ciruit by contecting the wiring off the other two"
"Yellow
to yellow, green to green, blue to blue"
As
Lyle works to connect the wires, the plane continues to descend at an alarming
rate.
"You'll
blow up the whole system if een one wire is crossed"
Jarod
screams
"We
are going down fast!"
"Come
on, come on"
"Ok,
ok there's one connection to go"
Lyle
finds himself with three wires left
"Damn"
"What?"
"We've
30 seconds to go before it will be too late"
"Jarod, he has three wires left, only one of them blue. What should he do?"
"Lyle you are choose carefully"
"In
other words GUESS!"
"And pray it is right"
Lyle
hesitates only a moment
"Lyle
pick on, damn it, pick one!"
Lyle
connects two of the three remaining wires. Instantly, the boards in the cockpit
light up, the plane has electronics again!
"Yesss"
"Not
so fast"
"What?"
"The
good news is that we are going to land in about 10 seconds. The bad news, is
that the landing gear didn't properly deploy probably. So hold on we're
going to crash"
Lyle,
Miss Parker and Raines belt themselves into seats as Jarod struggles to keep the
big plane level during its too swift descent. For
several tense seconds, no one knows if the plane will land or crash.
The plane touches down on the runway, but as Jarod said, the landing gear won't
hold and quickly collapses under the weight of the plane.
It scrapes along the runway, threatening to break apart in the process,
but in the end, it holds and the plane screeches to a painful stop.
Raines
recovers first, screaming
"Jarod!"
He and Lyle dash to the cockpit.
They
throw open the door, but they are too late, the cockpit is empty.
"Damned it"
Lyle hears a small explosion somewhere in the plane and warns Miss Parker and
Raines
"Come
on. This thing is going to blow"
All three of them make a run to get off of the plane and to cover. No sooner are they all away, then the plane explodes, taking with it all evidence of the murder of Adama and his men.
SCENA

At
the Centre, Sydney tells Miss Parker
That
must be an emotionanly trying time for you"
And
Broots asking her
"Are
you all right Miss Parker?"
"I don't know Broots...but thanks.I just want everything to get....you know I almost said I want things to get back to normal. No such thing around here"
"No,
definitely now Raines is in charge"
Miss
Parker is surprised to hear it
"Raines?"
"What? Hadn't you heard?"
Mr.
Raines and Lyle enter the room and approach her. Raines tells her
"You
look surprised to see me"
"Well,
after the Aficians were behaving on the tamic in Morocco. I firgureda beheading
was in order"
"After
that I've understood Jarod broke free on the jet, sadly killed Adama and his
guards and parachuted away with the scrolls they were forgiving me, especially
proud of the way that Mr. Parker gave his life, trying to save what was
theirs"
"Quite
a bedtime story"
Lyle
says
"He
kept us alive...all of us"
"They
need me, now more than ever, as well as my children. Jarod has be returned"
"So,
it is back to normal"
"With a twist. Whichever you to brings Jarod back will have a long-term future here and a future in the Parker legancy"
"And
you ever fails?"
"Be
careful when you joke about the beheadings.
Your
brother has shown me a sign of loyalty"
Raines
holds up his newly re-attached thumb, while Lyle holds up a hand that is once
again devoid of the digit. Sydney and Broots look away.
Raines
tells Miss Parker
"I'll
be awaiting a sign from you"
She
tells him
I'll
have to get back to you on that"
PART 17
At home, Miss Parker is
looking at the sketch of Angel and her doll, when her cell phone rings. It's
Jarod.
"What?"
"So what do you think they said?"
"The scrolls?"
"I was hoping you had some answers, insights
into the so called prophecies"
"Those answers are somewhere in the ocean
along with my f..." Miss Parker trails off.
Her eyes filling with tears, she asks Jarod
"Do you think that, there's any chance, he
bailed for the right reasons, Jarod? Or was his geronimo just another one of his
lies?"
"I don’t know. Maybe it’s time you give
yourself that gift he never gave you... the truth"
Miss Parker tells Jarod
"I hope you find your mother"
"And what about...us?" replies Jarod
"You run, I chase. That choice was made for us
a long time ago"
With a hint of a smile on his face, Jarod says
"Maybe that is the Parker curse"
"Yeah" says
Miss Parker, smiling a little herself, even through her tears "hell
of a life we have here, Jarod"
"Only this time the first one who finds the
answers, lives"
"Jarod, the prophesies, if they were real,
maybe... we could have found out what our future
would hold."
"If they’re real"
replies Jarod then breaks the connection.
In her home, Miss Parker does the same, but looks for a long moment at the phone
and holds it, almost tenderly in her hand as her attention is drawn to her
mother's diamond ring.
Somewhere, the scrolls have washed up on a lonely beach and one set of them has
opened partially. The water hasn't washed away all of the words that are on
them. Still clearly visible are these words:
"The Centre shall rise. The Chosen will be
found, a boy named Jarod"
